Notes Extended

Libel: Publication of a false statement of fact that serioiusly harms someones reputation.

Publication: Photo captions, Articles, Newspaper.

The catch: Knowing something is true, and proving that it is ture are 2 different things.

Red Flag: Sexual misconduct, lying, Accusastions of illegal conduct, Unfit for busniess, "loathsome diseases", acidemic problems, racial/relgious/ethnic background, lack of credit worthiness.

Reasonable: Use trustworhty sources, take accurate notes, document, report, talk to all sides of the story, be open-minded, do the requried work, be rigorous in your choice of language, never publish the story if you have doubts of its truth.

Slander: someone saying it out loud.
