The big headline is most likely a hard news story
Starts with a lead summary. Typical story will have most of the information up front, the 5 w's.
Inverted pyrimid. Who, What, When, Where, and Why. How if possible.
Inverted pyrimid, have most important things first so that it catches the readers attention to read your article.
Soft news, not time sensitive.
Feature story, Longer then the hard news story. Less time sensitive, more in depth and are able to research. Complex issues. Find out about interesting people, more narative, your own experienses almost like your opioion.
Editorial, personal opioionated piece. "I think", "It should be"
Structure for hard news story: Lead first, summarizes the story and pull the reader into the story. Hint at the 5 w's.
Structure for soft news: Dont push the information onto people right away. Give a bit of background first, structered.
Body: Repeat the 5 w's get interview of the people that your writing about, write pieces that tie everything together. Not about what YOU think, just presentiong the FACTS.
Dont get side tracked on your story. 5 senses should be put into the story, or at least trying.
